Open Board Position: Events Director

Events Director at WIIS-NL

The main aim of Women in International Security Netherlands (WIIS-NL) is to advance understanding in the Netherlands of the need for greater gender equality in international security. We aim to:

  • Promote greater gender equality in security institutions in the Netherlands and Europe as well as institutions that partly deal with security issues.

  • Connect practitioners, policy makers and academics in the Netherlands to achieve this goal.

  • Educate and inform general audiences in the Netherlands about the importance of gender balancing and gender equality in international security.

 

As Events Director you play an integral part in defining this network. Are you excited about the prospect of coming up with and hosting inspirational events for our members and beyond? Take a look at the description and requirements below.

 

Position description

  • Developing the overarching program of events (speaker series, panel discussions, networking drinks) and maintain an events strategy/calendar.

  • Managing the events.

  • Work closely with the Communications Officer (and other board members) to draft key messaging for stakeholders, potential partners, and event promotion.

  • Identify potential partners and co-event facilitators.

  • Identify and suggest creative, efficient and effective channels for engagement outside of direct partnerships (e.g. special events, podcasts, etc.).

  • Being part of a board and attending board meetings (1-2 times a month).

  • All board positions are unpaid and part-time.

 

Requirements

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Experience in organizing events.

  • Exceptional communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively independently and as a highly resourceful team-player under pressure and within deadlines.

  • A creative and innovative thinker, who actively presents new opportunities, proposes solutions and recommends best practices.

  • Ability to commit a couple of hours per week (including attendance at team meetings, and other events). This might be more or less depending on the week.

  • Proficiency in the Dutch language is not required, but is a plus.
