Over het evenement

WIIS-NL is excited to announce its next live event 'From Risk to Resilience: Women Shaping Security Responses'!

We believe that when institutions give space to gender perspectives, they gain stronger security outcomes. But what does this mean when we think about risk and resilience?

On 30 March, we will be hosting a panel discussion together with experts from CARE Nederland, the Ministerie van Defensie, and TU Delft Safety & Security Institute. Join us to discuss how gender plays a role in security and resilience, both in readiness and response, followed by networking drinks.

Suzanne van Opstal, Gender Adviser to the Commander Naval Forces and Head of Personnel Welfare at Koninklijke Marine.

Starting in 2000 as a naval officer, Suzanne van Opstal went for a short period to Afghanistan. Immediately after, she embarked on an anti-piracy mission near Somalia. In 2007 she started working on the theme of gender, later becoming a campaign manager in 2016 for the Defence Forces and developing the first campaign for recruiting women. In 2022 she was the Force Headquarter Gender Adviser in Lebanon UNIFIL.

Dr. Elisa Ragno, Assistant Professor in Statistical Analysis of Hydroclimatic Extremes at Delft University of Technology

In this role, Dr. Elisa Ragno studies hydroclimatic extremes, their changes, and their interactions with the goal of supporting both urban and rural communities in adapting to a changing climate through equitable and inclusive solutions. To achieve this, she develops probabilistic frameworks for quantifying floods and droughts and their uncertainty with a particular interest in those extreme events leading to significant societal impacts.
